Caraway production in Finland

Caraway is one of those very rare plants that benefits from growing in our northern conditions. The long days in summer gives it the highest possible level of aromatic oils in seeds. The amount of essential oil varies in general between 3% and 4 % by weight. In some years the oil contents may even reach over 5 % of weight. The amount of essential oil is clearly higher in Finland than in any other European country.

The cold winter minimizes the need for pesticides and herbicides. The level of pesticides and herbicides used in Finland is only about 1/5 of the amount that is used in the other countries producing caraway. The amount of biologically produced caraway is continually increasing and it can be offered as an alternative to the conventional produced caraway.

The production of caraway is based exclusively on contract farming. Because of our own contract farming and continuous training we can always insure the best possible quality. The cleaning and packaging plant is the most modern and efficient small seed cleaning plant in Finland. The direct deliveries from our warehouse directly to the customers are fast and efficient. The supply way is as short as possible and the material arrives always fresh and in an immaculate condition to the customers. The most often delivered quality fulfils a purity requirement of min. 99,5 % and an essential oil content of at least 3,0 %. For special high requirements we also deliver qualities with a 99,9 % purity and with an oil content of over 3,5 or 4,0 % (Official method of analysis, AOAC 962.17).
